| The Veterinary Technician Assistant Manager (VTAM) assists the Veterinary Technician Manager (VTM) in coordinating veterinary technical and clinical services. Assists in managing staff assignments, scheduling, training and performance evaluations for all veterinary technician levels. Assists in coordinating and providing support for clinical care, surgical and post-surgical monitoring and care, special services, protocol support, and teaching/training classes for ACS staff, UF research laboratories and external contract research studies. The VTAM must be competent in clinical care, including anesthesia and experimental surgery of laboratory animals, be able to provide comprehensive animal care and surgical support to all research animals, and be able to train veterinary care technician staff. Develops and implements policies and procedures. Serves in a leadership role within the veterinary care staff. Able to work independently and in a team to improve processes and customer service. The VTAM will establish working relationships and communicate effectively with research partners, clinical veterinarians and other ACS staff. The VTAM will demonstrate an excellent understanding of established protocols and procedures and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations and guidelines concerning quality assurance and laboratory animal care and use. | The Veterinary Care Technician I reports to the Vet Care Manager and Clinical Veterinarian. Provides veterinary care to a wide range of species of animals including (but not limited to) mice, rats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, cats, dogs, sheep, goats, horses, pigs, non-human primates, amphibians, reptiles, pigeons, chickens, cattle, etc.
Some animals may be experimentally infected. Employee may be required to be vaccinated to work with these animals or enter their rooms. Need excellent animal record keeping skills, interpersonal communication skills. This requires a basic knowledge of standards set forth by the USDA and the Natl Resch Council guide for care & use of lab animals. Some species are potentially aggressive and some may carry infections that are hazardous to humans or other animals.
• Performs activities relating to veterinary care as directed, including but not limited to: triage, assessment, treatment, sample collection, documentation, anesthesia and surgery support.
