The Neuro-Technology Laboratory of the Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases invites applications for a highly motivated OPS Medical Scientist to join our team focused on innovative research in Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for the treatment of neurological diseases, including Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, Tourette syndrome, and other disorders. This position is part of a close-knit team of world experts in the Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases at the University of Florida. The successful candidate will work closely with faculty and other team members to develop novel therapies for patients with neurological and psychiatric disorders. The OPS Medical Scientist will perform work central to the development of data analysis pipelines, supporting data analysis quality assurance, and troubleshooting. This team member will also assist in projects that relate to our ongoing cutting-edge research directions, including finite element modeling, positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI), magnetic resonance (MR) diffusion imaging, computed tomography (CT), and data visualization tools for neuroimaging. The individual will be expected to interact with other teams to facilitate program activities and to meet deadlines or resolve technical problems both independently and collaboratively. The OPS Medical Scientist will be expected to interact with students who work on relevant projects in data analysis methods. The successful candidate must have strong technical skills with a background in medical imaging data analysis and excellent written and oral communication skills. The individual will work on the maintenance and execution of standard data analysis packages and on the development of unique data analysis and data visualization pipelines. This position requires creativity and the ability to troubleshoot issues as they arise.

The Genoyer Lab is looking to hire a biological scientist to perform research related to RNA virology and innate antiviral immunity. The Genoyer Lab is opening in January 2026 and will study how viral RNA localization impacts infection and innate immunity during RNA virus infection, with a particular focus on flaviviruses. We are looking for excited and motivated candidates to help launch our research program. This position will entail designing and performing experiments related to virology, molecular biology, and cell biology. Experimental approaches include cell culture, viral infection and related assays, molecular biology assays (nucleic acid isolation, PCR, western blot, molecular cloning), RNA imaging techniques, immunofluorescence assays, and fluorescence microscopy. The biological scientist will also be responsible for independently directing and implementing the design, construction, and testing of new laboratory protocols related to these research areas. This position will also perform general laboratory maintenance, including ordering, routine record keeping, supervising compliance with hazardous waste and biological safety requirements, inventory, maintaining stock solutions, and equipment maintenance. This individual will also supervise and train multiple technicians and graduate assistants.

The position will be jointly supervised by Prof. Stephen Hill and Prof. Richard Hennig. The project involves fundamental spectroscopic investigations of molecular quantum materials in the Electron Magnetic Resonance (EMR) group at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (MagLab, employing state-of-the-art instrumentation available at the MagLab for both continuous-wave and pulsed EPR at high magnetic fields. Additional stimuli, such as light irradiation and electric fields, will also be available to further modulate the quantum properties of the molecules under study. Areas of interest within M2QM that are under active investigation at the MagLab include understanding decoherence processes and the development of strategies for enhancing coherence in molecular spin qubits; demonstration of multi-qubit entanglement and quantum logic operations in magnetic molecules; and exploitation of magnetoelectric coupling and optical activity for realization of electrically and optically switchable spin qubits. The successful applicant should have a PhD in either physics, physical chemistry, or a closely related discipline. Some experience in the use of EPR spectroscopy is preferred. Strong consideration will also be given to applicants who have experience with other spectroscopic or magnetic characterization methods, particularly as applied to molecular materials.
