| Job Description: |
Oversees daily operational activities for areas of responsibility:
- Coordinates the operations and workflow of the lab to achieve turn-around-time goals and satisfy client and pathologist needs
- Disseminates information to staff as necessary to maintain effective and safe practices
- Serves as a resource for complex technical and operational problem solving
- Oversees testing and laboratory functions according to SOPs and job specifications
- Ensures computer and middleware needs for each section are optimized to automate and integrate laboratory information systems with our processes
- Sets goals for workload and staffing for each area of responsibility in coordination with the Laboratory Medical Director and Director of Administration
- Works closely with the IT, Sales & Marketing, Pathologists, Laboratory Medical Director, Director of Administration, and Clients to successfully on-board new clients
- Participates in all meetings and prepares materials as required
- Organizes workforce: provides position descriptions and licensing requirements; determines appropriate FTE modeling; manages overtime;
Collaborate with the Laboratory Medical Director and Director of Administration to provide financial management:
- Establish an annual budget and financial management of the laboratory, including those for operations, administration, and sales and marketing
- Monitors budget targets and provides the Directors with reports; formulates plans to modify UFHPL operations as needed to meet budget targets
- Assists sections in determining requests for equipment acquisitions
- Ensures a cost analysis is performed on all new or updated tests
- Provides a review and recommendations for updates on CPT/billing codes annually
- Develops business plans and pro formas for new testing or investments
Responsible for maintaining a qualified staff:
- Achieves cross training and teamwork to minimize staffing needs and increase efficiency
- Ensures that all lab sections create and maintain a staffing schedule to cover all tasks required for laboratory operations on a daily basis
- Ensures all staff have been trained and demonstrate competency
- Maintains transparent and clear communications with staff to better anticipate and avoid problems that could affect a technologist’s desire to remain in the position
- Assists in recruiting students from medical technology programs and the laboratory community
- Cultivates a culture of trust and teamwork throughout the lab
Leads the Section Supervisors:
- Provides oversight in assessing staff productivity data to monitor staffing and productivity
- Effectively uses and role models current leadership techniques and theories, encourages decision-making skills development of Supervisors and staff, and provides insight and leadership in complex situations
- Coaches Section Supervisors on interviewing candidates and selecting new employees based on qualifications and interpersonal skills that would fit the position
- Teaches Section Supervisors to evaluate personnel and give feedback in order to better achieve laboratory goals and provide opportunities for professional growth
- Provides oversight in the absence of a Section Supervisor, including for the Student Health Care Center Lab
Provides direction for Quality Control/Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement:
- Ensures variances, errors and problems are tracked and corrective action is implemented to develop a culture of accountability and patient and staff safety
- Works with the Quality Coordinator to review monthly quality control and assurance program report and incidents
- Coaches Section Supervisors on appropriate quality assurance for each section
- Promotes the laboratory’s continuous improvement program

| Expected Salary: |
Salary is between $120,000 - $158,000, commensurate with education and experience
|

Master's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience. |
| Preferred: |
Licensed Clinical Laboratory Personnel. Experience with laboratory information systems and Lean/Six Sigma and process improvement |
