Job Description:

The Genetics of Auditory and visual Perception and Plasticity (GAPP) Lab in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, led by Dr. Tracy Centanni, is seeking a postdoctoral associate to contribute to a DoD-funded study. Broadly, the GAPP lab focuses specifically on auditory and visual perception in the brain, genetic variants that influence communication and associated disorders, and neural plasticity during learning and non-invasive neuromodulation.

The postdoctoral researcher will study the influence of non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation on neural responses to speech sounds using high-density electroencephalography (EEG). The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with a research team to collect and analyze data, mentor junior lab members, prepare manuscripts for publication, and participate at national and international level meetings.

Duties of this appointment include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing functions to identify appropriate participants and recruitment of participants.
  • Ensuring all materials and equipment are available and ready for testing.
  • Testing participants in relevant protocols.
  • Training and supervising student assistants in the data collection and scoring of data.
  • Assist in the supervision of undergraduate students.
  • Conducting statistical analyses.
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication.
  • Experimental design and statistical analysis.

Expected Salary:

$62,232 annually, commensurate with experience and in accordance with current NIH postdoctoral salary guidelines.

Required Qualifications:

PhD in neuroscience, psychology, communication sciences and disorders, biology, or similar equivalent.

Preferred:

Experience with vagus nerve stimulation and/or EEG analysis is highly desirable. The candidate should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, be strongly motivated, and work well independently as well as in a team setting. Experience with computer programming is a plus (MATLAB, Python, and/or E-Prime).
