The assistant director drives the strategic planning and management of clinical, educational, and research content within the department. This role determines and supports a comprehensive framework to curate, prioritize, and manage essential written, photographic, and video content, ensuring seamless information sharing and resource management across the perioperative environment. The assistant director oversees the entire content lifecycle, sets clear success metrics, and identifies optimal channels to engage stakeholders, convey key messages, and inspire action. Collaborating with UF Health Communications, UF Health Web Services, and the College of Medicine Communications team, the assistant director leads the administration of the department’s web and social media presence and designs innovative administrative support systems. This role requires exceptional managerial skills, strong judgment, and a proactive approach to analyze the effectiveness of both internal and external communications. The assistant director sets strategic goals and key performance indicators to inform future directions and ensures that the department’s communications align with the chair’s vision and objectives. This position directs the administrative and fiscal operations of the Communications & Publishing Office in the department. This position is also critical to the continued success of departmental recruitment strategies for faculty, CRNA/CAAs, residents, fellows, and Regional programs.
Supports the department leadership team and serves as an advisor and key stakeholder for the department’s management team; collects, analyzes, and summarizes data for departmental reports. Cultivates the most relevant, effective, and appropriate content at the most opportune time, for the appropriate audience, to achieve the department’s strategic goals through deliverables and tactics that touch many different people, processes, systems, and stakeholders. Develops, designs, and publishes content for distribution to key stakeholders, perioperative leaders, faculty, housestaff, administrative teams, alumni, and potential recruits.
Directs the department’s content strategy as an expert in all aspects of communication by using words, data, and visuals to create unambiguous content that supports meaningful, interactive experiences for customers across our clinical, education, and research missions. Serves as an expert in all aspects of communication to effectively support editorial strategy, web writing, search engine optimization, content management, and content distribution. Establishes performance goals and measures to evaluate the success of content initiatives. Critical in packaging departmental accomplishments and strategy to present to Senior Leadership across the clinical enterprise. Also instrumental in developing content and materials for Regional Programs.
Manages the department’s internal and external websites: ensures content is up to date, new content is posted on a regular basis, and content is redesigned as needed for search engine optimization (SEO), accessibility, and usability. Maintains understanding of current and emerging web technologies. Evaluates design elements to ensure proper structure and compatibility with browsers and devices. Trains faculty and staff on web/social media elements as needed. Analyzes website and social media analytics data to identify trends and improve content. Creates monthly and quarterly analytics reports. Manages all social media accounts for the department.
Directs administrative staff support for department members’ scientific publications, including overseeing the editing, formatting, and submitting of scientific publications and conference posters. Advises and assists department members with publication-related items such as journal selection, copyright permissions, poster printing, and plagiarism reports.
Actively participates in and contributes to department clinical, education, and research operational committees to develop and distribute key content to support daily operations. Directly supports the chair’s office for projects and key initiatives that impact the department’s reputation and credibility, including periodic internal and external reviews, annual reports, alumni engagement, UF Foundation, et al.
