Working Title: Director, Study Abroad Services

Job Description:

Direct the Study Abroad Services unit (SAS) within the University of Florida International Center (UFIC), working as an integral part of the UFIC management team led by the UFIC Dean.

Manage a highly motivated team of staff members and student assistants. Establish team goals in concert with UFIC’s strategic vision and adjust efforts as necessary to address emergent issues. Provide input and engagement as needed with contracting, master agreements, reciprocal exchanges, etc.

Work with faculty members, department chairs, deans, and other administrators to develop innovative study abroad programs that excite, challenge, and inspire. Work with campus partner organizations (i.e. Student Life, Undergraduate Affairs, Preview, Career Connections Center, etc.) to synchronize and complement student learning and wellness objectives.

Advance technological solutions that streamline student recruitment, program selection, and individual processing. Achieve faster, more efficient, and more personalized support.

Refine policies and procedures for study abroad and exchange programs in collaboration with the UF Offices of General Counsel; Student Financial Aid & Scholarships; Registrar; Procurement; Research Integrity, Security, & Compliance, etc.

Identify national and international models of excellence and innovation in Study Abroad.  Embrace and adapt best practices and challenge team members to accomplish organizational goals.

Engage and integrate programming with other UFIC units, including but not limited to the Office of Global Learning via faculty certificates and the International Scholars program and the Office of Global Research to identify and prepare grant proposals for study abroad enhancements. Link study abroad development to faculty initiatives, in-country Fulbright scholars and/or alumni, and university priorities.

Help set policies and procedures for the development of study abroad program budgets, working closely with the UFIC Fiscal unit.

Other duties as assigned.

Expected Salary:

$90,000 - $95,000/annually

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and eight years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Master’s degree and relevant experience
- In depth understanding of the scholarship and practice of study abroad
- Experience leading, managing, and developing staff effectively
- Track record of developing networks and building alliances
- Experience in strategic planning and goal setting
- Excellent communication skills

EDUCATION & TRAINING

Advanced degree (Master of Arts (MA) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)) in International Education or a related field

EXPERIENCE
- Experience in advising and/or working in international higher education programs
- Experience living, working, or studying abroad
- Experience working in a large, complex research university
- Experience in working with specialized software platforms in study abroad and/or higher education
- Experience with regulatory/compliance environment in higher education setting or in education abroad programming

KNOWLEDGE
- Strong knowledge of current international contexts as well as of trends in international program development, enrollment trends, etc.
- Knowledge of intercultural communication and exchange

SKILLS
- Track record of presentations, publications, or service in international education or related field
- Working with and interpreting data (quantitative or qualitative)

ABILITIES: Ability to successfully build and manage workforce, engage effectively across university domains, communicate organizational goals, and gain cooperation from others to obtain best results.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Innovative individual bringing new ideas and vision. Positive, engaging personality capable of creating a culture where study abroad participation is expected. Willingness to resolve disagreement in a constructive manner; to develop the abilities of others; practice good listening skills. Ability to foster team commitment, spirit, and trust, as well as to integrate and align team with broader context.
