Job Description:

This position, part of the General Accounting and Financial Reporting (GAFR) department within the CFO Division, is responsible for the financial reporting for University and provides guidance across the UF Enterprise and the CFO Division. This position will closely collaborate with the Associate Controller and Accounting Manager to ensure seamless operations of the entire General Accounting and Financial Reporting department.

 

  • Technical and Operations: Oversees the day-to-day operations of the General Accounting function with the Accounting Manager. Prepares the Annual Financial Report and other reporting elements pertaining to the annual financial reports of the UF Enterprise (University plus Component Units). Develops an annual work plan and supervises the preparation of work papers that provide an audit trail for the report along with the Associate Controller. Oversees financial data used for other reports outside of the General Accounting and Financial Reporting area.

 

  • Continuous Improvement: Analyzes and evaluates current journal entry, month and year-end closing and other business processes and recommends actions to streamline processes or improve operational efficiencies. Develops appropriate and useful metrics to assess customer service levels, department and individual performance levels, customer satisfaction, and other information to continuously improve the quality and efficiency of service. Monitors the effectiveness of existing technology and systems for enhancement or improvement opportunities.

 

  • Strategic Direction: Develops and implements strategic plans for the department in alignment with Chief Financial Officer and University strategic goals. Collaborates with the divisional leadership to develop long-range, strategic goals for the division. Provides strategic leadership, innovation, and planning concerning relevant areas and improvements or work processes. Conducts research and data analysis to assist in making informed business decisions.

 

  • Leadership: Provides leadership for direct report(s) and student interns, including effective performance management, identification of training needs and professional development plans. Creates an innovative and continuous improvement focused environment by seeking out and encouraging ideas for process change. Actively supports and contributes to the CFO Division commitment to inclusive excellence.

 

  • Special Projects: Other duties as assigned.
Expected Salary:

$85k - $95k

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Licensure as a State of Florida Certified Public Accountant strongly preferred, but not required.

Strong Knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, specifically as these principles relate to college and university technical accounting, fund accounting and financial reporting.

Comprehensive knowledge of the PeopleSoft financial accounting system, and proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, Word and Internet Browsers.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with individuals at multiple levels.  

Positive attitude and be a team player, ability to thrive in a collaborative environment.

Familiarity with PeopleSoft or other ERP systems.

Ability to understand various business processes and translate them into technical solutions.

Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
