The Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology is seeking a full time Data Scientist IV. Would you like to be a part of cutting-edge research using artificial intelligence to improve healthcare? At the University of Florida’s PrismaP Lab, we’re looking for a motivated and talented AI/ML Data Scientist with experience in machine learning, deep learning, federated learning, and natural language processing. You will be an essential member of the research team, working to expand AI-augmented diagnostic, prognostic, and clinical decision-making in a safe, secure, and ethical manner using a trustworthy, reproducible, sustainable, and ethical AI framework for a wide range of critical and acute illnesses.
Your position will integrate a broad range of state-of-the-art methods and models in AI/ML, and you’ll be expected to have prior experience working with multimodal data types (tabular data, time series, text, voice, images). Previous work with causality and AI will be considered as a competitive advantage. You will lead a project from inception to completion. You will work in a dynamic and inspiring environment with teams of undergraduate, graduate, and medical students; biomedical scientists; and physicians on a wide range of federally and industry-funded research projects.
Essential Functions;
Research and apply the latest artificial intelligence and data science methodologies into real-world medical prognostic and diagnostic models using large multimodal datasets with time series, text, images, voice, and tabular input Develop and apply a variety of machine learning, deep learning, graph, generative, and state-of-the-art large language models in collaboration with a team of engineers and data scientists Build and maintain relational, distributed, and graph databases that support customer applications Natural language processing Utilize federated learning platforms to implement deep learning models Integrate, filter, and extract multivariate and multimodal clinical datasets for patient cohorts of interest from local databases and data warehouses Process, validate, analyze, and visualize insights from heterogenous patient data Ensure quality, consistency, and validity of large multimodal datasets Summarize and visualize results for inclusion in scientific publications Maintain code and proper documentation
Lead ML/ NLP projects, including supervising students, postdocs and staff. Develop new areas of research. Help write grants and obtain funding.
Write and maintain excellent documentation of all work Maintain appropriate records of research methods and results, and assist in preparation of presentations and/or writing manuscripts Apply theoretical expertise and innovation acumen to generate patents and publications in top journals and conferences

Minimum Requirements: |
A Bachelor’s Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and seven years of experience; Master’s Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and five years of experience; Doctoral Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and three years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: |
Strong background in deep learning, machine learning, and natural language processing with proficiency in heterogenous multi-modal data modeling and integration Experience with state-of-the-art models, large language models, and generative models Advanced proficiency in Python (Pandas) and SQL, PyTorch or TensorFlow Proficiency in federated learning.
