The Library Services Assistant performs a variety of public service, marketing and technical roles in support of the Architecture & Fine Arts Library (AFA). Provides circulation and reference services. Assists patrons with printers and other library equipment. Assists with processing new materials. Assists with collections workflow and projects including inputting data into order forms. Assists with ongoing project to move periodicals backfiles to storage and shift collections. May assist with creating social media posts and marketing collateral for Library services and events.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB AND THE PERCENTAGE OF TIME SPENT ON EACH FUNCTION 50% PUBLIC SERVICES
- Works at the AFA Library service desk, providing basic and supervisory circulation services as needed to provide continuity of service and to provide support to student staff
- Helps to maintain an environment conducive for study and research by ensuring that reading room policies are observed
- Assists patrons with printers, scanners and other technology within the Library
- May open or close the library according to established procedures, when scheduled to do so
- May occasionally work desk shifts at the Education Library during low staffing periods
- Provides directional, basic, and specialized reference, referring patrons to subject specialists when appropriate
- May provide reference service via Ask A Librarian (chat service)
30% COLLECTIONS SUPPORT
- Assists with processing new materials
- Assists with processing course reserves
- Assists librarians with collection development by searching our holdings against publisher catalogs and lists of gift materials, and by filling out order forms for selected new books and media
- Assists with ongoing project to transfer periodical backfiles to storage and subsequent collections shift
10% SOCIAL MEDIA / MARKETING/EVENTS SUPPORT
- Creates content for AFA Library’s social media presence across various platforms
- Assists AFA staff with marketing workshops and events through creating and distributing signage, handouts, and other promotional activities
- Assists with planning and logistics of library exhibits and events
5% OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
- Contributes to ad hoc projects as assigned

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE
This is an hourly, time-limited position for Spring Semester, 2025. Anticipated hours are 40 hours/week normally scheduled between 8am and 6pm, Monday-Friday. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required. Hours during Spring break, intersession, holiday, and emergency periods, will vary.
