Job Description:

The successful candidate will contribute to projects aimed at characterizing the roles of amino acids, peptides, and plant extracts in regulating key protein functions altered by disease. Current lab projects include:

  • Electrolyte, mineral, and nutrient transport alterations during cancer care, infectious diarrhea, and malnutrition
  • Anemia
  • Tumor growth or suppression
  • Cystic Fibrosis, asthma, allergic rhinitis, and COPD
  • Radiation and chemotherapy-induced gastrointestinal complications
  • Atopic dermatitis and wound healing

Research and Development:

  • Design and execute investigations that require developing new experimental approaches and applying existing protocols to identify the pathophysiology of inflammation and associated barrier defects with radiation dermatitis.
  • Meet regularly with the Principal Investigator (PI) to discuss research directions, and assist in planning, designing, and interpreting experiments.
  • Work with primary human epithelial cell culture to screen and select blends of amino acids, peptides, or plant-based sugars or extracts for their effectiveness in enhancing epithelial barrier function, cell proliferation, and hydration.

Laboratory Work:

  • Perform Electrophysiology experiments, molecular biology tasks, including protein microarray, RNA-Seq, DNA sequencing, cloning and extraction, RNA purification, gel electrophoresis, western blot, PCR, microarray, ELISA, and FACS analysis.
  • Maintain accurate records of all experimental results, conduct library searches for current projects, and manage a database for resulting publications.
  • Prepare drafts of results from completed and ongoing experiments for publication.
  • Maintain inventories for laboratory experiments, ensuring adequate supplies are available for scheduled or assigned work.

Expected Salary:

Salary commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Electrophysiology, molecular biology techniques such as RNA-Seq, DNA sequencing, cloning, RNA purification, gel electrophoresis, western blot, PCR, microarray, ELISA, and FACS analysis.
  • Experience with primary human epithelial cell culture.
  • Familiarity with techniques for screening and selecting blends of amino acids, peptides, or plant-based extracts.
