Job Description:

• Reviews electronic record documentation; codes health information for billing purposes using working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease process, and medical terminology in accordance with departmental procedures and university compliance policies

• Reviews ADT (or similar) report to identify services to be coded. Reviews and assigns correct CPT and diagnosis to RPICC patients

• Enters charges into the billing system; collects, completes, and distributes federal forms (OBGYN, PFS, and B/AR)

• Reviews all documents to ensure adherence to Compliance Office standards; if not in compliance, incumbent takes appropriate action to rectify before proceeding to charge entry process

• Selects correct diagnostic and procedure codes based upon interpretation of documentation and correct coding principles; applies modifiers as appropriate

OTHER DUTIES
• Stays abreast of changes in third party payer laws rules and regulations

• Reviews charges at time of data entry and via batch proofs and makes any necessary corrections; works missing charge reports as assigned,; investigates other billing issues as requested

• Performs miscellaneous related duties as required

Expected Salary:

$23.95 - $28.74 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of appropriate experience.  Appropriate college course work may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.  Ability to handle confidential material in compliance with HIPAA.  Licensure and Certifications-Certified Professional Coder (CPC) (American Academy of Professional Coders) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS-P) (American Health Information Management Association) or Certified Coding Associate (CCA) (American Health Information Management Association) required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Radiology coding experience (3 years)
• OBGYN coding experience (5 years)
