Job Description:

The Department of Psychiatry seeks applicants for an Assistant Scientist position to conduct research on neural and behavioral mechanisms of cognition and motivated behavior in the context of models of psychiatric and neurological conditions. The position requires the candidate to work independently as a scientist while also collaborating with students, post-doctoral fellows, and other faculty at University of Florida and beyond. We are seeking a scientist with skills in a broad range of behavioral neuroscience techniques, as well as experience with coding and computational analysis of large datasets, statistics, and experimental design.

Duties include:

  • Conducting behavioral neuroscience experiments in rats, including operant behavioral testing, optogenetic, and fiber photometry
  • Design and implementation of experiments
  • Analysis of in vivo fiber photometry datasets
  • Oral presentation of research results
  • Writing manuscripts and grant proposals
Expected Salary:

Commensurate with training and experience

Minimum Requirements:
  • A doctoral degree and a minimum of 4 years of experience in behavioral neuroscience research or a closely-related field
  • Experience with coding and statistics
  • Experience with writing peer-reviewed manuscripts and grant applications
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Interest in and experience with a collaborative, multi-disciplinary research environment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
  • Experience with operant behavioral testing in rodents, as well as optogenetic and fiber photometry
  • Strong quantitative and computational skills
  • Experience with rodent models of aging, neurodegenerative disease, and/or psychiatric disorders
