Job Description:

Coordinate, conduct, and document training associated with the PSA curriculum.  Maintain appropriate records and staying up to date with the PSA and the Produce Safety Rule’s guidance and produce safety research. This essential function of the job will be one of two primary focus areas of this position and will be accomplished in partnership with Florida Extension and Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) personnel. Responsibilities include scheduling training sessions and instructors, course registration and management with the Produce Safety Alliance and the Association of Food and Drug officials (AFDO), on-site coordination of course with local personnel, delivery of PSA course modules, and post-course administration including timely submission of expenses and organization of course registration information. Maintain database of training classes and participants and assist PI in preparing sponsor (FDACS) reports and Florida Cooperative Extension year-end reports. Establish a strong working relationship with Florida state and country Extension partners and other extension/outreach partners.

Participate in On-FarmReadiness Review (OFRR) programs in support of Florida growers. Employee will participate in Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) training and updates as appropriate and in conjunction with FDACS program partners. Employee will participate in FDACS-scheduled OFRR activities withing on the state of Florida as a co-assessor of on-farm produce safety practices to help ensure compliance of Florida farms with the federal FSMA-related Produce Safety Rule.

Develop, organize, participate in, and conduct Produce Food Safety training programs throughout the State in conjunction with other UF/IFAS food safety extension personnel. This includes, but is not limited to planning, training, material development, scientific materials development, and technical outreach in the food safety aspects of fruit and vegetable production in Florida. Evaluate all produce-related extension and outreach training programs.

This position is TEAMS. Normal workweek is 40 hours, with flexible scheduling with supervisor’s prior approval.  Regular travel (primarily by car) is required.

Expected Salary:

$55,000 - $58,000; Commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s in Food Science, with four years of food safety experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  (Will accept a BS in Food Science or related field.)

Possesses PSA Lead Trainer certificate.  (If this is not met, then this person must be capable of obtaining PSA Trainer status within 6 months of employment and PSA Lead Trainer status within 12 months of employment.) Ability to instruct in the Spanish-language PSA trainings is preferred but not required.
