Job Description:

The Department of Health Education and Behavior (HEB) at the University of Florida (UF) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank. The Department has established research programs in behavioral aspects of substance misuse; obesity, physical activity, and nutrition; and sexual health, including HIV/AIDS, other STIs, violence prevention, and reproductive health. The Department of HEB (http://heb.hhp.ufl.edu/) is the home to 21 full-time faculty members and currently enrolls over 400 undergraduate majors, and 115 graduate students. This 9-month, full-time (1.0 FTE) position begins August 16, 2023, or can be flexible. UF has a competitive benefits package, and department faculty are eligible for summer salary.

Preferred candidates will have research programs in these existing areas or in areas that closely complement them. Applications are encouraged from candidates with theoretical frameworks relevant to health behaviors such as behavioral economics, an established research record in the modification of health-related behavioral risk factors, strong quantitative or mixed methods research skills, experience with multidisciplinary collaboration, a focus on health equity, use of digital technologies for health promotion, and implementation/dissemination of evidence-based health behavior change programs. We seek applications from individuals who will: (a) conduct an independent research program that complements department and college research initiatives, (b) participate in collaborative research programs, (c) teach in the department's educational programs, and (d) mentor MS/Ph.D. students. HEB faculty members are active research collaborators and contribute to research training in several university-wide centers, including the Center for Behavioral Economic Health Research, Center for Addiction Research and Education, and Southern HIV and Alcohol Research Consortium.  Candidates must have earned their doctorate in health education, health behavior, or an appropriately related field in public health or the social and behavioral sciences prior to faculty appointment. Applicants must show evidence of a strong scientific background and the ability or potential to secure external funding to support their research program. The ability to contribute significantly to the teaching mission of the department, including undergraduate and graduate education and the mentoring of graduate students, is highly desirable.

Review of applications will start December 1, 2022, and continue until the position is filled. Submit applications for Position 00029078 online at https://facultyjobs.hr.ufl.edu/ and include: (1) an application letter summarizing qualifications, ongoing research, and interest in the Department; (2) a curriculum vitae; and (3) names, addresses, email addresses, and telephone numbers of four references. The selection process will be conducted in accordance with Florida's 'Government in the Sunshine' and Public Records Laws.
