Job Description:

The successful postdoctoral candidate will be part of the Gunduz lab (http://brainmappinglab.org) at the J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. The research will be focused on the development and testing of new theories of pathophysiology of neural disorders, network communication and neuromodulation using high-resolution electrophysiological signals in humans. The incumbent will be expected to be involved in all aspects of this research, which includes experimental design, neural data collection with our clinical collaborators at UF Shands Hospital, method development, signal analysis and interpretation, manuscript preparation, and grant development.

The J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering is one of only a few departments in the nation to be co-localized with a top-ranked medical school, veterinary school and dental school. The department is housed in a state-of-the-art building (that is co-located with the medical school and steps from engineering. Biomedical Engineering at UF partners with many local research centers and institutes including the Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases, McKnight Brain Institute, the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, and the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center.

Minimum Requirements:

We are seeking postdoctoral candidates with substantial experience in different areas of neuroscience and engineering. With respect to neuroscience, we expect the candidate to be intimately familiar with EEG/ MEG/ECoG/LFP neurophysiology, in particular oscillatory dynamics and population-level activity, and to have a strong interest in current theories of cortical processing, such as communication-through-coherence, gating-by-inhibition, and predictive coding. With respect to engineering, we expect the candidate to have a solid background in signal processing, in particular time series/spectral analysis, classification, and advanced statistics/machine learning, as well as excellent programming expertise in Matlab and Python. We will not consider candidates without a strong background in both of these areas of science and engineering. In addition, the candidate should have an intense interest in multidisciplinary work,  and problem solving & communication skills. We collaborate intensively, both within our group and with a number of outstanding clinicians at UF. Hence, the most compatible candidates will embrace the multidisciplinary, fast-paced, and collaborative nature of our work, while handling many regulatory approvals.
