This Computer Operator I serve as an entry-level position within Infrastructure and Communication Technology (ICT), a unit within University of Florida Information Technology (UFIT), and will support the university’s success through service and operational excellence.
Infrastructure and Communication Technology (ICT) is a division of UF Information Technology that manages the UF Data Center and delivers hosted server, storage, virtualization, database, email, and related systems, in addition to connecting the University of Florida campuses to the world via high-speed data, video, Wi-Fi, telecommunications, and VoIP services. This unit also monitors and escalates issues faced with the university batch processes.
This position is responsible for basic level data center systems operations and will monitor UFIT networking and systems using tools provided. Responds correctly to abnormal conditions and notify on-call support. Follows written and oral instructions for resolving abnormal conditions. Supports with after-hours Help Desk Support and customer calls. This position provides 24 hours/day, 365 days/year coverage via shifts.
Some key responsibilities and characteristics of this position are:
- Monitor & escalate the status and operations of computing and networking systems and provided services for UFIT, including Florida Lambda Rail
- Actively monitor and address service requests around key processes/jobs that may require modification or notification according to instructions
- Assist UF Help Desk customers after hours (as needed)
