Job Description:

The Office of Museum Technology at the Florida Museum of Natural History seeks a well-qualified End User Computing Specialist I. The position works in a three-person team providing help desk and hardware break-fix support to 500+ Windows computers, Apple computers, tablets and associated peripheral devices. Success in the position requires strong written communication skills, as well as strong technical skills, to communicate with end users and to maintain documentation. As a side benefit, you will learn about the natural history objects and collections here – we’ve got everything from sharks and snakes to plants and paleontology!

The position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware and software issues independently while communicating effectively with end users and other IT staff.
- Consistently deliver excellent customer service and meet work standard objectives in line with help desk service levels, as defined by the help desk supervisor.
- Assist help desk supervisor with software installations, upgrades, and security patches.
- Assist with user requests for IT procurement and manage the purchasing chain of custody.
- Maintain a clean and tidy professional workspace.
- Document work in the ticket system as work is conducted.
- Create and maintain documentation, including technical reference and procedures
- Update and maintain computer inventory database to ensure accuracy
- Conduct internal staff and end user training
- Manage work on projects with deadlines; keep project documentation up to date
- Maintain and develop skillset on current technologies as appropriate
- Work as part of a team; liaise with the Enterprise Systems, Software Development, and Collection Database teams as necessary to escalate and resolve problems

Expected Salary:

19.16-23.95; commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Associate's degree; or a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent written communication skills required. We are looking for a candidate with strong technical and business writing skills (concise, clear, and cohesive writing skills).

CompTIA A+ and Network+ certification preferred. If not already attained, CompTIA A+ must be achieved within first six months of employment.

Must be proficient in:
- Troubleshooting, repairing, and upgrading computer hardware and software
- TCP/IP networking fundamentals and OS network configuration
- Effective use of vendor-provided technical support for fast and efficient problem resolution
- Proficiency with current Microsoft and Apple operating systems for desktops, laptops and other peripherals
- PowerShell and bash/zsh scripting

Additional preferred skills:
- Proficiency with removal of malicious software
- Highly developed problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Experience with remote administration tools
