Job Description: |
Perform installations, maintenance, advanced troubleshooting, and repairs on fire alarm systems, alarm devices, radio frequency communicators and related equipment, utilizing blueprints of fire alarm system layouts and building plans. Respond to maintenance calls, trouble shoot field devices; repair or replace nonfunctioning fire system devices and systems, restoring to original functionality. Drill holes for wiring in wall studs, joists, ceilings, or floors. Perform system testing and preventative maintenance on fire alarm systems, devices, and equipment. May perform work on fire suppression equipment, such as sprinkler heads, fire pumps, fire back flow preventers or other fire equipment. Oversee in-house projects and ensure work is in accordance with relevant codes.
Support services for other trades; disable and enable fire alarm systems for contractors and other trades. Supports outages, coordinates and works with contractors and other entities and responds and gives guidance to emergency personnel. Enter time and data for work orders into the AiM CMMS system; record all work performed, annotate materials used, fault conditions encountered, and status reports on contracts.
Oversee vendors in performance of annual inspections, smoke evacuation system testing, and 3/5-year inspections as well as installation of new alarm systems and suppression systems. Works with customers and EH&S Fire Division to coordinate building wide Fire Evacuation testing. [10%] - Maintain, repair, and program the Security Information Systems, Inc. (SIS) monitoring system and modems. Work with the University Police Department (UPD), Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S), and other agencies or departments to resolve reporting problems.
Operate State/UF vehicle that requires a valid driver license.
Generate material lists, acquires materials, and initiates material requests, as needed, for efficient work. Clean and maintain workshop, mechanical areas, and personal equipment.
A criminal background and post-offer health assessment will be conducted.
Work hours Monday through Friday, 07:30 a.m. to 04:00 p.m. Position considered as Essential Personnel as defined by UF Policy.

Preferred Qualifications: |
EDUCATION & TRAINING: - National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems Levels 1 and 2.
EXPERIENCE: - Five years of experience in the methods of installation, calibration, programing, maintaining, and repairing fire alarm systems and monitoring equipment.
KNOWLEDGE: - Highly knowledgeable in standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field SKILLS: None noted
ABILITIES: - Ability to follow established safety practices and procedures - Demonstrable ability to recognize the proper materials/equipment needed for a specific job and make necessary changes. - Demonstrable ability to read a service request
