Job Description:

Collaborate to manage strategic implementation of sustainability into campus operations, and help integrate academic and operational sustainability programs.  Including collaboration with UF administrators, staff and faculty, and community stakeholders (City, County, and civic leaders), meeting and project coordination, which may include coordinating efforts to provide information, data, and timely reports to colleagues, governmental agencies, and other institutions or associations

Develop and engage the campus community with behavioral best practices that result in measurable and/or foundational improvements in campus sustainability metrics, especially related to greenhouse gas emission reduction

Work with staff, faculty, students and relevant campus units to develop, implement, assess, and report on programs that will motivate and engage individuals and offices to incorporate sustainability best practices in support of campus-wide sustainability goals and commitments

Serve as liaison with other departments and units concerning services and functions provided by business and financial/auxiliary services related to sustainability

Co-coordinate regular facilitation and revision of the UF Climate Action Plan (CAP)

Collaboratively coordinate the implementation of actions in the CAP

Collaboratively coordinate data collection and reporting for the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Leadership Commitments (ACUPCC), AASHE Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System (STARS), and other nationally recognized programs and needs of the university

With campus partners, maintain campus sustainability metrics, perform analyses, provide clear reports, and recommended courses of action as required

Creatively communicate to the campus and community about progress toward campus- and community-wide sustainability goals (e.g. greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, buildings, water, transportation, climate justice, and equity)

Assist with evaluating effectiveness of programs and projects in support of strategic sustainability goals

Coordinate and manage office-led and collaborative sustainability related programs for campus and community audiences

Assist with general project and event implementation and logistics

Represent the office at campus events, conferences, and speaking engagements

Represent the director/office on University, system-wide, state, or national committees

Advertised Salary:

Expected starting salary $45k - $55k, based on education and experience.  

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience. For some positions assigned to this class, special qualifications may be added to the minimum, such as appropriate professional registration or certification.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge or working experience in broad range of sustainability topics and practices
  • Specific knowledge in at least one technically intensive sustainability solutions area (e.g. climate, energy, buildings, water, transportation)
  • Understanding of and experience with sustainability metrics, analysis, and reporting (e.g. Greenhouse gas Inventory, ACUPCC, AASHE STARS, and other sustainability reporting frameworks)
  • Experience with strategic project/program development, implementation, measurement, evaluation, and analysis
  • Experience with facilitation of multiple stakeholder groups leading to collaborative outcomes and actions
  • Experience with Community-Based Social Marketing or other behavioral change framework
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interpret and present technically complex topics and information for a range of audiences
  • Ability to independently create clear and meaningful charts, figures, and infographics
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within a diverse community, and with partners from a range of backgrounds to resolve complex situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and work as part of a team to reach organizational objectives
  • Creative thinking and problem solving, with ability to develop and prioritize multiple solutions
  • Familiarity with operational and academic missions within Higher Education
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Excel and/or database software
  • Working knowledge of Tableau or other data visualization software
  • Ability to work some flexible hours (e.g. evenings and weekends)
