Job Description:

The Division of Business Affairs at the University of Florida (UF) seeks an accomplished and engaging leader for the position of Director of Building Services. The director is responsible for the leadership and oversight of custodial services, moving services, equipment rentals, and special project support for Facilities Services across the UF campus. A key expectation for the position will be the continued development and implementation of a university-wide high-performance work team program. Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President for Facilities Services, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to innovate and make a positive impact on the operations and culture of these vital service units.

Responsibilities and Expectations

The director provides day-to-day management, leadership and policy direction for Building Services, including an annual salary budget of $13.5M and an operating budget of $1.5M. The unit comprises more than 400 employees, organized in a number of diverse teams, who provide services for approximately 12.5 million square feet of building space.

Priorities for the director include leadership and team development; resource management; and, program and policy development and implementation.

Leadership and Team Development: Leads and motivates employees through a unified vision of service excellence; establishes strategies and goals with an eye for responsiveness, efficiency and flexibility; implements multi-discipline high-performance work teams to deliver customer-focused maintenance and housekeeping services; coaches and develops employees; collaborates with other UF leaders; and represents the assistant vice president and UF in meetings with local, state and federal offices.

Resource Management: Ensures prudent and effective staffing across the unit; develops and manages departmental budget and executes to optimize institutional support; oversees development of work plans and service agreements; and establishes procedures to ensure the proper care and stewardship of real property and other resources.  

Program/policy development and implementation: Establishes and enforces industry standards for service delivery; explores, evaluates and introduces new technology or work methods in support of division goals; develops and implements in-service training programs; and interprets laws, rules and regulations and formulates appropriate policies.

Business Affairs is a multi-faceted organization that affects every person who passes through campus. Its 11 units play an essential role in keeping the University operating smoothly and include Facilities Services; Planning, Design and Construction; Transportation and Parking Services; Environmental Health and Safety; UF Police Department; Emergency Management; and Sustainability. The University of Florida is a top-10 public research university, serving over 55,000 students and covering facilities on a 2,000 acre campus and beyond.

Advertised Salary:

Salary is $115,000 to $120,000 and commensurate with education and experience. The University of Florida offers a generous benefits package that includes insurances such as health, life, and dental as well as vacation, sick leave, and personal days.

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree and six years of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience.

Ability to obtain a Class E operator’s license within 60 days of hire.
