The UF Health Science Center Summer Health Professions Education Program (UF SHPEP) is a 6-week immersive program for 80 undergraduate students from disadvantaged and/or underrepresented backgrounds who are interested in learning more about careers in the health professions. The SHPEP Coordinator is largely responsible for the success of this program. This position is supervised by the Assistant Dean of Student & Multicultural Affairs for the College of Dentistry. Responsibility areas are listed below.
Recruitment: Develops, coordinates, and maintains communications with pre-health advisors, pre-health clubs and other resources, that support targeting disadvantaged and/or underrepresented minority undergraduate students interested in health professions. Recruits participants in various ways including traveling to other colleges in the Southeast region, tabling at student events, etc. Coordinates with the UF HSC Offices of Admissions for the recruitment, application, and admittance process. Develops and implements outreach activities throughout the year. Maintains an interested students and SHPEP alumni database.
Programmatic: Assists principal investigator with development of SHPEP curriculum, develops the schedule for the six-week program, and coordinates the activities of the participants. Organizes and supervises the program’s social committee. Plans and organizes the kickoff and graduation events. Serves as the primary contact for the 80 SHPEP participants, SHPEP alumni, and prospective SHPEP participants. Collaborates with faculty on program development.
Administrative: Makes travel arrangements for the 80 SHPEP participants, completes all appropriate travel-related reports. Obtains quotes and makes purchases for the program using a PCard or through the UF purchasing system. Processes stipend payments to the participants through UF’s HSP system. Works closely with HR to facilitate payments to the UF student mentors.
Promotional: Develops promotional materials for the program. Works with vendors to design, order, receive, and disburse all promotional materials. Works with UF HSC Communications to provide media coverage and advertisement of the SHPEP program.
Reporting: Collects evaluation data regarding the program’s effectiveness. Tracks and coordinates reports relevant to program effectiveness/demographics. Assists PI with data reports for funding agency. Creates surveys for ways to improve program for future. Evaluates training effectiveness and achievement of learning outcomes and recommends changes or adjustments as needed
$32,000 - $38,000, commensurate with education/experience
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
