Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor
The University of Florida Nuclear Engineering Program is undergoing continued expansion within the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. We recently hired multiple new faculty members, and expanded the program. The program is built around various leading nuclear engineering expertizes and facilities such as the newly restarted and re-licensed University of Florida Training Reactor, a 100 kW research reactor. The Nuclear Engineering Program offers an ABET-accredited B.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Nuclear Engineering Sciences. We anticipate that the successful applicant will continue the traditions of teaching, research, and service that support our academic pursuits at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Nuclear Engineering Program was integrated into the UF Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) in 2011. This unique configuration provides a vibrant, multidisciplinary, highly collaborative environment. The department includes 28 faculty members, over 250 graduate students, over 340 undergraduates (with Nuclear Engineering consisting of approximately 100 undergraduates and 50 graduate students), and over $10 million in annual research expenditures. The current eight Nuclear Engineering Program Faculty had research expenditures of over $3 million in 2016, and will grow to approximately $3.6 Million in 2017. Our faculty research activities are essential to the success of our programs; as such, new members of our faculty are expected to initiate and sustain strong sponsored research and graduate training programs.
Candidates should possess a doctoral degree in nuclear engineering or a closely related discipline, with particular interest and scholarly accomplishments in all areas of nuclear science and technology will be thoroughly considered, additionally experience or expertise within the fields of Reactor Physics, Computational Methods and/or Radiochemistry will be meritorious. Successful candidates will be expected to conduct research, teach both graduate and undergraduate courses, and contribute to the department's service mission. Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating success in developing research programs which complement existing departmental, college or university strengths in areas of national priority. Applicants with experience in academia, national laboratories or industry will be highly valued.
