Participate in grant-funded research projects. Execute, modify, and interpret results of laboratory experiments. Duties include curating and maintaining the laboratory's collection of bacterial strains and plasmid constructs, standard cloning, mutagenesis, molecular biology techniques, protein and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) purification, microscopy, immunoassays, assessing protein-protein or protein-nucleic acid interactions, and keeping accurate records.
Prepare results for presentation at scientific meetings. Write and submit research papers for publication.
Assist with administering the grant budget for the principle investigator (PI), including budgeting for the year's expenditures. Make general purchases. Coordinate equipment purchases and maintenance when necessary). Assist departmental fiscal staff members with periodic budget adjustments and accounting regarding the director's projects and interdepartmental collaborators.
Assist with submitting annual progress reports to NIH. Intellectually develop competitive grant renewals. Manage grant budgets. Organize and submit appropriate compliance materials annually - To the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) regarding the use of research animals, including ensuring all personnel involved with animal work have received the appropriate training, - To the Intracellular Bacterial Communities regarding (IBC) regarding development of recombinant bacterial strains and assurance of appropriate regulatory oversight - For maintaining compliance with all radiation safety guidelines and reports -To the Institutional Review Board (IRB) regarding production of laboratory reagents obtained from human volunteers.
Oversee laboratory compliance with recombinant DNA guidelines for research, laboratory safety, equipment maintenance, computing and software licensing, and other issues that affect laboratory members. General resource for new laboratory members unfamiliar with UF procedures involving personnel and compliance items (mentioned above), and for curating current and archival laboratory records, data, research protocols, research presentations, bacterial strains, plasmids, laboratory reagents, and coordinating of scientific materials shipments to and from the laboratory.
Assist laboratory personnel, including (but not limited to) post-doctoral trainees, graduate students, and undergraduate students.
