The mission of the Agricultural and Biological Engineering Department is to develop professionals, create and disseminate knowledge, and promote the application of engineering, science, and management principles to meet societal needs with respect to agricultural, biological and land and water resource systems. With more than 100 years since its founding, ABE is one of the top ranked departments in the nation (ranked third in graduate and seventh in undergraduate agricultural and biological engineering programs by US News & World Report in 2024). The Department has 44 faculty positions, 37 at the University location in Gainesville and 7 at UF/IFAS Research and Education Centers around the state.

This position aims to develop a nationally recognized, extramurally funded research and teaching program in urban horticulture that will advance urban horticulture systems by working in collaboration with faculty, graduate students, government agencies, industry representatives, botanical gardens, and non-profit organizations in Florida. These systems aim to enhance food security and respond to the impacts of environmental, socioeconomic, and other challenges.
Assistant Professor of Geospatial Analytics in Geomatics 60460000 - AG-SCHL FOR, FISH, & GEOMATICS Main Campus (Gainesville, FL)
Research duties include developing a collaborative, internationally recognized and externally funded research program focused on Geospatial Analytics in Geomatics, including – but not limited to – advanced Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) techniques and scaleable application architectures and algorithms for geospatial data analysis and visualization. The faculty member’s research program is expected to develop and incorporate novel algorithms and frameworks, such as deep learning, parallel and distributed computing, AI-based spatial data storage and transfer technologies, and cloud-native geospatial solutions for feature extraction, real-time autonomous navigation systems, extended reality, predictive modeling, data fusion, digital twins, high-definition mapping, and pattern recognition applied to large multi-scale and multi-modal geospatial data. Instructional duties include teaching two courses.
