This is independent work assisting with the development and implementation the University of Florida Chemical Waste Disposal Program. This is a federally mandated program (RCRA) which is stringently regulated and monitored by both the state and federal governments. Participates in one or more of the following: pick-up, segregation, packaging or shipment of hazardous waste. Assists with coordination of a program to pick-up chemical waste from over 1500 UF research labs and various auxiliary operations. Provides training and advisement for faculty and staff to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Administrative interaction with regulatory agencies, outside vendors and university departments required. Reviews current regulations (local, state and federal) which impact on chemical waste disposal. Assists and advises regarding chemical spills and handling. Attends professional meetings when possible and courses to maintain required federal and state waste handler credentials.
