The Interdisciplinary Manufacturing Engineering and Design Lab (iMED) at the University of Florida is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to conduct original research in additive manufacturing (AM). The candidate will engage in distinct additive manufacturing (AM) experimental research projects, supervising student assistants, coordinating multi-site laboratory logistics, and assisting with the development of research dissemination materials such as, but not limited, to technical publications, research status reports, preparation of results for presentations to be reviewed by the principal investigator. The successful candidate is expected to have hands-on experience with various AM techniques such as Direct Energy Deposition (metals), Bioprinting (soft materials), and/or other AM techniques. Other relevant experience to include proficiency in operation of manual and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machining systems, as well as practice with materials characterization and analysis techniques. The candidate should have experience with working with wet chemistry techniques, along with carrying out experiments within a fume hood, and safe handling of materials and chemicals. Lastly, ability to interact with varied audiences (i.e. students, internal and external academic colleagues, industry, government) is required. The appointment is on a 9-month contract starting on or near August 15, 2025.

The preferred candidate should possess a background in applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) research in hardware security and assurance, specifically in reverse engineering of both integrated circuits (IC) and printed circuit boards (PCB). Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate expertise in applying computer vision, image analysis techniques, machine learning, deep learning to IC and PCB reverse engineering as well as expertise in areas of explainable AI, causal AI, and reinforcement learning. Duties will include, but not be limited to, conducting research on the development of machine learning methods for assurance on hardware devices like PCBs and ICs as well as on the development of automated hardware reverse engineering approaches at the IC and PCB levels for design recovery. Primary responsibilities will also encompass project management to meet project deliverable commitments including tasks such as organizing weekly project meetings, mentoring students, software prototyping, creation of scholarly publications, and the delivery of presentations to share research outcomes. This role will also involve collaborations with FINS faculty, sponsors, and partners for overseeing grant-funded projects, paving the way for future collaborations and crafting proposals for funding from industry and government-level agencies.
