The Department of Biostatistics is growing and invites applicants to join our expanding team of talented faculty and staff. We are recruiting up to three full-time 12-month tenure-track faculty members at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level. The Department is situated jointly within the College of Public Health and Health Professions (PHHP) and the College of Medicine (COM), in the Clinical and Translational Research Building, facilitating multidisciplinary research. Faculty members pursue independent and collaborative research; they also teach in the MS and PhD in Biostatistics Programs and support a concentration in Biostatistics as part of the Masters of Public Health Program. They are advisors and mentors to a wide variety of students. Our current faculty members are leaders in artificial intelligence, big data analysis, cancer, genetics, infectious disease modeling and intervention studies, medical image processing, metabolomics data analysis, survival analysis, causal inference, statistical methods of health surveys, high-dimensional inference, longitudinal data analysis, and clinical trials. The Liu lab conducts multiscale studies ranging from molecules to whole animals in order to understand the impact of genetic defects and diet on cardiac physiology. Novel genetic or diet-based mouse models are developed to investigate the mechanisms of heart disease, utilizing methods of cellular physiology, protein biochemistry, and in vivo cardiac functional assays. Research areas may include implementing and improving current invasion risk assessment methods, evaluating invasion risk scenarios for species newly introduced to the USA and Florida or new uses of non-native plant species, shifting invasion risk of species under climate change and other global changes, and horizon-scanning for future high-risk invaders.

The research component of this position (60%) will focus on relevant independent research on invasive plants and/or algae in aquatic or semi-aquatic habitats. Research can be directed as either an applied or basic program as long as it adds support and breadth to existing CAIP programs or addresses concerns from resource managers in Florida or across the nation. For example, applied research may be focused on advancing the science of plant/algae management through IPM approaches, remote sensing, UAVs, or other geospatial technologies. The teaching component of this position (40%) will include undergraduate and graduate sections of Aquatic Plant Management and additional courses to be developed by the instructor. These courses will be delivered in the classroom and/or through distance teaching methodology.
