The Veterinary Technician Assistant Manager (VTAM) assists the Veterinary Technician Manager (VTM) in coordinating veterinary technical and clinical services. Assists in managing staff assignments, scheduling, training and performance evaluations for all veterinary technician levels. Assists in coordinating and providing support for clinical care, surgical and post-surgical monitoring and care, special services, protocol support, and teaching/training classes for ACS staff, UF research laboratories and external contract research studies. The VTAM must be competent in clinical care, including anesthesia and experimental surgery of laboratory animals, be able to provide comprehensive animal care and surgical support to all research animals, and be able to train veterinary care technician staff. Develops and implements policies and procedures. Serves in a leadership role within the veterinary care staff. Able to work independently and in a team to improve processes and customer service. The VTAM will establish working relationships and communicate effectively with research partners, clinical veterinarians and other ACS staff. The VTAM will demonstrate an excellent understanding of established protocols and procedures and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations and guidelines concerning quality assurance and laboratory animal care and use. Some species are potentially aggressive and some may carry infections that are hazardous to humans or other animals. Some animals may be experimentally infected. Position may require vaccination to work with these animals. The VTAM provides direct supervision of assigned veterinary care technician staff.
