The Department of Neurology is seeking a highly motivated Clinical Research Coordinator II. This position is responsible for managing all biobanking initiatives in the Department of Neurology, specifically at the Normal Fixel Institute for Neurological Disease. The incumbent will be responsible for collection of biospecimens, storage and management of samples for neurological diseases such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, myotonic dystrophy, Friederichs’s ataxia and ALS. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for managing research studies and study subjects while implementing good clinical practice guidelines. Proper consenting of study subjects and management in regard to biobanking will be required. Incumbent ensures that all regulatory requirements are adhered to appropriately under strict deadlines. The incumbent will collaborate with study coordinators, physicians, nurses and other key personnel in the clinics to ensure compliance of banking protocols and satisfactory care for enrolled patients. This job will require oversight of a small lab and the equipment therein. This role will play a critical role in advancing scientific knowledge, accelerating medical research and improving health outcomes.

This is a highly responsible position, which reports to the Associate Director for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) office. The IACUC consists of scientists, non-scientists, and unaffiliated residents of the community who review the use of animals in research and teaching at UF under the rules and regulations of the USDA, NIH/OLAW and others who safeguard the welfare of these animals. The University of Florida’s IACUC reviews animal research conducted at the Health Center, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and IFAS. The IACUC office supports the IACUC committee. The primary responsibility of this position is to review IACUC protocol submissions, assist Principal Investigators/laboratory staff with protocol submissions, and serve as a liaison between the research community and the IACUC during protocol review. In addition, this person will be cross-trained in other IACUC pre and post-approval duties/staff areas to provide coverage during times of increased work burden, staffing shortages due to leave or turnover, and provide flexibility to modify processes to be more efficient and/or compliant.
