The candidate will join a well-established epilepsy group comprising 5 full-time and 3 part-time adult neurologists and one faculty neuroscientist, complemented by 3 advanced practice nurses and supported by neurosurgery, neuropsychology, neuropathology and neuroradiology that together comprise the UF Comprehensive Epilepsy Program. The incoming candidate is guaranteed at least 0.2 FTE protected research time for a 2-year period upon hire. The position may include a part-time assignment at the Gainesville VA for interested candidates. The position will interest individuals with an interest in surgical epilepsy, neurophysiology and brain imaging, but all fields related to translational brain science in epilepsy will be considered.

A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the Laboratory of Neurogenetics & Neuroscience in the McKnight Brain Institute at the University of Florida, focused on genetic determinants of brain health and disease. The research is funded and directed by Professor Matt Farrer in the Department of Neurology. Over the past 20 years, our team has helped define the genetic etiology of neurodegeneration using a combination of population and pedigree-based molecular genetics (high-throughput sequencing, genotyping and Sanger sequencing), bioinformatics (vcf tools, galaxy, python, perl, java) and applied statistics (R archive, Plink, Beagle, linkage software). Dr. Farrer is best known for his contributions to Parkinson’s disease. The discoveries and insights gained have improved diagnosis and have led to insightful models to advance novel therapeutics into clinical trials.

A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the LaVoie Lab in the Center for Translational Research in Neurodegenerative Disease at the McKnight Brain Institute. The overall goal of the LaVoie Lab is to elucidate the earliest molecular events responsible for adult onset neurodegenerative diseases. The lab approaches these devastating disorders from both the perspective that specific inherited gene mutations linked to familial forms can provide valuable insight, as well as maintaining a focus on aspects of the far more common sporadic forms. The research is funded and directed by Professor Matthew LaVoie in the Department of Neurology and the lab employs a diverse array of state-of-the-art tools to accomplish these goals including a series of novel knockin animal models, iPSC-based neuronal and glial cultures, and CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing.
