Job Description:

The Executive Director of the Levin College of Law has responsibility for all business and operational functions at the College, including the finance, human resources, and administrative and operational support units (including the Dean’s Office). This individual is a proactive and creative problem solver who is a member of the core executive leadership team for the College and integral to all strategic decision-making and long-range planning for College success. The Executive Director is a financial liaison with central administration, including serving as the Financial Accountability Officer for the College, and works closely with the Dean and the Senior Associate Dean to plan for and fund College strategic priorities and objectives. The Executive Director is responsible for improving internal operating systems, developing and nurturing talent, and providing strong strategic leadership for the College’s core business and administrative functions.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Direct and manage financial, human resources, and administrative operations

  • Direct, supervise, and oversee financial, human resources, and administrative support units at the College.
  • Ensure financial accountability, accuracy, and compliance at the College and serve as the Financial Accountable Officer and Chief Business Officer.
  • Direct and supervise administrative and academic support team in collaboration with Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs.
  • Oversee and lead the College’s integration of Workday.
  • Lead any necessary technological improvements to increase transparency, usability, and ease-of-use of existing financial and HR systems and processes.
  • Oversee annual reporting processes for accreditor and university/SUS reporting obligations.
  • Collaborate with central administration as necessary to accomplish goals.
  • Foster a collaborative environment working across College units to accomplish goals and objectives.

Develop and oversee long-range financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting

  • Work closely with the Dean and Senior Associate Dean/Chief of Staff to project future revenue and expenses, develop annual College budget, and recommend utilization of current financial resources.
  • Set targets for enrollment, fundraising, and any appropriations requests.
  • Meet regularly with the Dean to assess budget-to-actuals, anticipate future needs and expenses, and engage in short-range and long-range planning.

Participate and serve on Core Executive Team for the College

  • Work closely with other core College executive leaders to problem solve collaboratively and set strategic priorities for the College.
  • Collaborate with other core leaders to enhance revenue-generation and cultivate entrepreneurial spirit across academic programs and units.
  • Ensure efficient, service-oriented, and transparent operations across the College.

 

Expected Salary:

$150,000 - $200,000 annually; commensurate with education and experience

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and eight years of relevant experience.

Valid driver's license is required.

Preferred:

The successful candidate will possess:

  • 10+ years of experience in financial operations and accounting for a college or academic unit.
  • Significant experience in or familiarity with human resources processing and payroll operations or a willingness to learn.
  • A proven track record of effectively and skillfully managing and supervising teams of talented people, including cultivating talent and independence in direct reports.
  • An expert-level acumen in financial systems, accounting practices, and budgeting.
  • A strategic mindset that enables collaborative problem solving and innovation.
  • Outstanding communication skills, including excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collegially and interact effectively with a diverse constituency.
  • An appreciation for and support of the College’s spirit, which emphasizes excellence and accountability without taking ourselves too seriously.
