| Job Description: |
Collect citrus and other subtropical fruit leaf samples from the greenhouse and the field. Extract DNA and RNA using commercially available kits, run PCR and gels, visualize gels under a gel doc device and identify positive samples.
Prepare tissue culture media, autoclave media, pour into dishes, and move in vitro citrus plants into fresh media.
Utilize conventional breeding methods to cross citrus and other plants, to produce hybrid progeny, evaluate and characterize the resulting plants.
Visit experimental field plots, check irrigation, and scout for pests and diseases. Apply fertilizer to trees as needed.

$15.80 - $23.94/hour commensurate with education and experience

| Required Qualifications |
Associate’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization or a high school diploma and two years of related experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Must possess a valid Florida Drivers’ License or have the ability to obtain one within 90 days. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. This position will require work outdoors under Florida’s summer temperatures and travel to field sites.

| Preferred: |
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization, such as horticultural science, plant science, soil science, biology, or a closely related field. Prior experience preferred
Basic laboratory and greenhouse skills for conducting research work.
Demonstrated ability to collect, record, and analyze scientific data relating to the biological sciences.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
A good team player with a strong work ethic and good communication skills.
Knowledge of plant propagation, experience in plant management in the field.
