The Opportunity:
The University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications (CJC) offers one of the nation’s premier graduate communication programs, with dynamic options including in-residence and online master’s degrees, graduate certificates, combined undergraduate and graduate degrees, and a Ph.D. program.
We are seeking a student-centered and highly organized Academic Advisor II to provide academic guidance and support for students in the CJC Pro Master’s, Combination Degree, and Research and Theory Master’s programs. This role is ideal for a motivated professional who is passionate about student success, demonstrates strong initiative, and thrives in a collaborative academic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Advising and Support
- Advise students on academic requirements, course selection, policies, and procedures
- Provide individualized guidance to help students identify long-term goals and career pathways across a variety of industries and academic interests
- Monitor student progress toward degree completion and proactively address academic challenges
- Maintain accurate student records and documentation in accordance with university policies
- Serve as a resource for students by connecting them with appropriate campus services (e.g., Career Connections Center, UF International Center, Counseling & Wellness Center, Graduate School)
- Collaborate closely with program directors, academic leadership, and faculty to support student success
Academic Administration
- Prepare reports on student enrollment, retention, and achievement metrics
- Coordinate credit transfers and degree audits for combination and master’s students
- Communicate departmental deadlines, policies, and updates to students and stakeholders
- Support program initiatives such as orientation, academic events, and scheduling
- Work closely with a collaborative advising team to ensure consistent and high-quality service
