This Research Assistant position provides research support to the UF George A. Smathers Libraries’ Research Metrics and Impact team. We are currently seeking a candidate to assist with data analysis and visualization in an internally funded research project. The individual selected for this role will format data for visualization, reports and dissemination. They will also clean and analyze already collected data and use Python or R to search, filter, and refine the extracted data.
Study overview: The study uses UF research publications from IFAS faculty and outputs as a basis for a cited references analysis, starting with citing works and working backwards to identify publishing models used and explore any correlation between publishing models (i.e. open access vs. subscriptions) and citation patterns. The research design uses both quantitative and qualitative methods to assess achievement of dissemination goals. In the first part of the study, quantitative bibliometric data from databases was collected and extracted. The second part adds qualitative data from author surveys to enrich the understanding of scholars’ publishing decisions as a function of intended audience, funding agency expectations, and other factors. Author reports will be generated from the quantitative data to share during interviews with these authors. A dashboard in Power BI may be created and shared to allow UF authors to visually explore data on the impact of their own publishing decisions. |
