The UF Health Cancer Center is the 72nd NCI designated cancer center and the only one at a public university in the State of Florida. As a matrix cancer center, we span 11 of the University of Florida's 16 colleges, pulling together a world-class, multi-disciplinary membership of over 330 faculty and 150 staff to address the challenges of the cancer burden faced by the population we serve as we work together to find a cure.
As a Genetic Counseling Intern at the UF Health Cancer Center (UFHCC), you will be responsible for assisting genetic counselors and clinic supervisor, screening patients for genetic counseling, and building relationships between patients and the Hereditary Cancer Program.
In your new role you will be responsible for the following:
- Assisting genetic counselors and screening patients for genetic counseling.
- Assisting with administering a stable Progeny database, including inputting patient information, medical history, and demographics.
- Preparing patient records for cancer genetic testing and research testing.
- Guiding patients through genetic testing process, including obtaining informed consent, completing paperwork, and facilitating sample collections.
This is an Intern-level position, ideal for candidates with an interest in gaining experience in genetic counseling. Employees in these roles operate as part of our collaborative research enterprise and are fundamental to the progress of cancer research being conducted at the University of Florida. Advertised Salary:

$14.00 hourly

Minimum Requirements:
|
This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.
Successful pre-employment screening including a background check.

Preferred Qualifications:
|
Knowledge/Experience:
- Enrollment in a relevant degree program with an interest in health awareness, genetics, and/or counseling.
- Experience with Progeny software or other pedigree drawing applications.
- Experience with Epic electronic medical records system.
Qualities:
- Excellent customer service.
- Ability to work proactively and independently.
Skills/Abilities:
- Computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Proficient organizational skills and ability to work within a professional healthcare environment.
