Classification Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field and seven years of experience or Master’s degree in biology or a related field with five years of experience. Doctoral degree in biology or related field with two years of experience.

Job Description:

Research Activities
• Independently design and conduct specialized, complex laboratory, growth chamber, greenhouse and field-plot studies on the molecular mechanism of HLB, with the eventual goal of enhancing HLB tolerance. Driving to various greenhouses and field plots will be required.
• Analyze research datasets, evaluating data by performing appropriate statistical calculations.
• Modify experimental designs as necessary based on experimental data analysis.
• Communicate research results by writing technical reports, research papers, scholarly articles, and abstracts for publication.
• Write grants and participate in fundraising for research. Review reports and proposals for accuracy, adequacy, or adherence to policies, regulations, or scientific standards.

Laboratory Management
• Develop, modify, and implement training programs that allow students and collaborators to utilize laboratory equipment and space safely and in compliance with UF policies and regulations.
• Coordinate/provide scientific services for project collaborators
• Monitor the condition of scientific equipment (laboratory and field) and develop/implement maintenance protocols that ensure accuracy and quality of experimental data. Evaluate/recommend new supplies, technologies, and equipment to ensure operability in specific laboratory settings for enhancing or complementing research.
• Communicate with and oversee laboratory users to maintain clean and orderly laboratory conditions.

Teaching/Training Activities
• Trains graduate students and postdocs on lab in the laboratory and the field on research methods, operations of research equipment, lab safety, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Oversee training and scheduling of OPS employees.

Other duties as assigned.

Must have valid Florida driver’s license.

Expected Salary:

$25.38 - $28.74 /hour

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field and seven years of experience or Master’s degree in biology or a related field with five years of experience. Doctoral degree in biology or related field with two years of experience.

Preferred

Experience working with citrus and/or HLB disease.
