Job Description:

The University of Florida College of Medicine is seeking a Director of Operations and Strategy to lead the Quality and Patient Safety initiative (QPSi). This initiative leverages UF’s expertise in artificial intelligence to drive innovations in quality, patient safety, healthcare efficiency, and workforce development.

In this leadership role, you will collaborate with COM leadership and QPSi stakeholders to develop and implement training, quality improvement, and experiential learning programs that improve healthcare outcomes and reduce inefficiencies. You will oversee program development, strategy execution, workflow optimization, fiscal management, and outreach efforts to ensure alignment with the College of Medicine’s strategic vision.

Key Responsibilities include:

Program Development & Management

  • In collaboration with QPSi leadership, oversee the growth of QPSi, including education, training, and quality improvement programs.
  • Collaborate with College of Medicine faculty and staff to expand QPSi initiatives.
  • Provide strategic planning guidance to QPSi leadership on program development and management.
  • Develop content for reports and presentations to communicate QPSi goals, progress, and impact.
  • Foster a culture of continuous quality improvement and shared efficiencies within QPSi.
  • Lead or co-lead special projects as assigned by the Dean of the College of Medicine.

Operations & Administrative Management

  • Partner with QPSi division leaders to develop policies, staffing plans, and operational procedures.
  • Oversee resource management, staffing, recruitment, and workflow development.
  • Ensure effective fiscal and administrative management of QPSi initiatives.
  • Supervise administrative staff and assist in managing personnel across QPSi divisions.
  • Support outreach strategies and program implementation to enhance QPSi’s impact.

Strategic Planning & Implementation

  • Advise QPSi leadership on key strategic decisions and initiative development.
  • Participate in long-term planning and program design to align with QPSi’s mission.
  • Evaluate and measure program outcomes, ensuring alignment with QPSi and College of Medicine goals.
  • Integrate the College of Medicine strategic plan into QPSi operations and initiatives.

Expected Salary:

$155,000 - $180,000; commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and eight years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field such as business administration, public administration, science or health administration and four years’ experience in healthcare or academic medical center.
  • Knowledge and expertise in quality improvement and patient safety with executive-level training (e.g., Intermountain Advanced Training Program (ATP) in Clinical Quality Improvement, Harvard Medical School Safety, Quality, Informatics and Leadership Certificate Program).
  • Excellent leadership abilities preferably with executive-level training in servant leadership.
  • Strategic planning skills, preferably with demonstrated experience in strategic planning and implementation at a department or college level.
  • Ability to attract, develop and lead a team for the effective implementation of multiple strategic initiatives to achieve strategic goals.
  • Positive attitude to instill a shared vision to strive for excellence with innovation and creativity, while demonstrating strategic thinking and planning, and imaginative problem solving.
  • Excellent communication skills, both in written and verbal presentation.
  • Strong experience in working with a senior leader to oversee the management of an administrative office in an academic medical center, including highly developed interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to serve as an advisor providing context and background for issues.
  • A high degree of professionalism and competency dealing with a variety of individuals including senior executives, physicians, university administration, hospital administration, and external constituents.
  • Conflict management and resolution skills.
  • Skilled developer of relationships and partnerships.
