Job Description:

GatorWell is seeking enthusiastic, outgoing, motivated, health-conscious graduate students to promote wellness through facilitating presentations, outreach initiatives, and campus events. Those applying will need to be comfortable talking about various health topics including interpersonal violence, stress management, time management, sleep habits, sexual health, alcohol and other drugs, etc. They will need to take the initiative to approach students and encourage them to participate in GatorWell activities and programs and be comfortable fielding questions around sensitive and controversial issues. Students of all majors are encouraged to apply, though students with a background or current graduate work in the following areas will be strongly considered: public health, health education and promotion, psychology, counseling and counselor education, family, youth and community sciences, or higher education/educational leadership.

Primary responsibilities will include the following:  

  • Conduct outreach to UF students about a variety of health topics  
  • Facilitate presentations, educational activities, and discussions with student groups  
  • Assist with coordination and production tasks for campus events  
  • Assist in conducting outreach efforts focused on the dimensions of wellbeing and health topics relevant to the college student experience.   
  • Assist with data collection, assessment, and benchmarking 
  • Collaborate with campus departments, student organizations, and community stakeholders for wellness education initiatives 
  • Assist with other GatorWell projects and focus areas as needed 

Focus areas you may be assigned include, but are not limited to: 

  • Lifelong Wellbeing: 10 Dimensions of Wellbeing  
    • Engage in collaborative relationships with campus and community partners to expand Lifelong Wellbeing initiatives.
  • Harm Reduction: Alcohol and Other Drugs, Hazing Prevention 
    • Assist with 1 on 1 student educational sessions for Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS), Cannabis Screening and Intervention for College Students (CASICS), and Medical Amnesty Policy referrals.  
  • Sorority and Fraternity Life   
    • Develop, implement, and assess wellness presentations, trainings, and workshops for specifically geared toward the Greek Life Population 
  • Health Hut 
    • Coordination of the Health Hut program (to include, scheduling, permitting, meeting facilitation, general upkeep and logistics).
  • Healthy Relationships: Sexual Health, Interpersonal Violence Prevention
    • Support the enhancement of Bystander Intervention programming for the campus community.

Time Commitment:   

  • 20 hours per week   
  • Ideal start date: May 2025
  • Ideally be able to commit to Summer and Fall 2025
  • Attend onboarding and training upon employment

Position Reporting Structure:

This position will be supervised by, and work in collaboration with, a full-time professional Health Promotion Specialist. They will have consistent communication with their supervisor through regular meetings.

Expected Salary:

This is an hourly student position and does not include a tuition/fee waiver or benefits. Salary is $15/hour. 

Minimum Requirements:

Current UF graduate student or newly accepted graduate student on the Gainesville campus

Must be able to ideally start in May 2025

Must be able to work office hours physically in the main GatorWell office (Suite 1100, Reitz Union)

Must be able to commit 20 hours per week to this position and its responsibilities for Summer and Fall 2025.

Must be able to attend the required Fall GatorWell trainings.

Graduate student staff are expected to be highly responsible, organized, excellent communicators, and autonomous. Dress in office is business casual. While conducting outreach, events, or presentations, attire includes GatorWell polo, khaki/jean pants or shorts, and closed toe shoes. Professional dress for presentations and outreach is also acceptable. Students will mostly work out of our main GatorWell Office in the Reitz Union, Suite 1100. 

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Have past experience with research, presenting, or outreach in the fields of prevention, health, wellness, public health or health education
  • Strong interest in health and well-being
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with public speaking and/or group facilitation
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Have obtained a bachelor’s degree

Additional Requirements:

For those selected for an interview, you will be asked to facilitate a 5-10 minute presentation on a health and wellness topic during your interview which will likely be held virtually. The purpose of the presentation is to showcase your creativity, facilitation skills, communication skills and ability to organize thought in a manner similar to the daily work expectations for a Graduate Outreach Educator.
