Security Guard II

The Emerging Pathogens Institute EPI) invites applicants for a security guard II position.

The primary responsibility of this position is to monitor activities at the security guard station in the lobby of the EPI facility. Duties will include screening all personnel, vendors, and visitors seeking entrance into the building to assure entry is granted only to authorized individuals. Lobby duties includes monitoring a multi-screen live video surveillance system to watch out for any disruptions or unauthorized activities, responding to all security alarms following outlined protocols, reporting all suspicious activity/person(s), clearing building of unauthorized persons, communicating urgent issues to appropriate EPI personnel, ensuring visitors and vendors have proper escorts, and ensuring that doors are properly secured and/or opened upon authorized request.

• Foot patrol of the interior and exterior perimeter of the facility during shift changes will be required. This includes monitoring for suspicious vehicles or packages located around the exterior, ensuring security bollards are secured and in place, securing doors, checking various mechanical rooms for visible leaks, damaged equipment, or mechanical issues, and reporting to appropriate EPI personnel.
• Patrol BSL-2 floors and respond to system notifications and alarms, taking appropriate actions to resolve issues. Works closely with facility occupants to insure it is properly maintained and facility assets are appropriately provided and assigned. Serves as liaison with Facilities Services for facility management issues. Reconfigures conference room during seminars and special events.
• This position will also oversee the provision of the visitor and official business parking passes, receive packages and ensure their proper retrieval and storage and maintain logs for a guard audit report.
• Miscellaneous duties may be required.

Commensurate with experience

High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

This is not a remote work position, and is located on the University of Florida's main campus in Gainesville, FL.
