The Garrett Research Lab at the University of Florida is directed by Timothy J Garrett has a postdoctoral opening to develop and implement new methods in newborn screening using high resolution mass spectrometry in order to expand the number of rare diseases detected. Research in Garrett’s lab involves the application and development of high-resolution mass spectrometry for clinical research covering many areas including cancer, the microbiome, rare diseases, and autoimmune disorders.
Develop liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry methods for the analysis of lipids and metabolites from dried blood spot analysis, plasma, and/or tissue biopsies in relation to rare diseases (known and unknown)
Collaborate with bio informaticists on building software tools to analyze and interpret the data
Train laboratory technicians in LC-HRMS methods
Prepare presentations and publications to report on results
Work with staff at the Florida Department of Health to implement new methods
Maintain instrumentation and perform necessary quality controls
Prepare grant applications as needed

Expected Salary: |
$61,008 a year, per NIH rates based on experience
|
Minimum Requirements: |
PhD in related field (chemistry, biochemistry, biology)
|
Preferred Qualifications: |
- Experience with high resolution mass spectrometry especially in lipidomics and metabolomics
- Excellent verbal and writing skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with others
