The Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary is seeking a full time AST DIR, Clinical Research. The primary objective for this position is to provide centralized support for the Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Division to optimize the conduct of clinical research and to maintain compliance with institutional, state and federal research requirements. This position will coordinate, direct, and organize all of the day to day activities of clinical research conducted within the Division. Responsibilities include the day to day management of the Divisions clinical research staff, management of research studies as the primary research coordinator, oversight on all Divisional research studies and developing Divisional protocols/policies in order to ensure quality research methods.
Administrative management:
1. Reviews clinical research proposals for Pulmonary Medicine, evaluating for the feasibility of studies.
2. Assists the assigned study coordinator to plan and implement individual methods and procedures for the recruitment of appropriate candidates for each research project. Provides educational presentations, in-services, and any other form of representation necessary to maintain adequate recruitment for individual projects with the assigned coordinator.
3. Designs and implements adjustments in methods and/or procedures of data collection and management in order to maintain high level of accuracy and efficiency as necessary for each study. Assists with the development and implementation of a Divisional research data base to assist with subject recruitment and fiscal responsibility. Assists the grants manager to provide monthly reports to the Division Chair.
4.Assigns supervised staff to coordinate specific research projects. Uses individual judgment in assigning specific research related duties to pulmonary personnel, such as pulmonary function testing. Manages equipment and patient Maintains research patient records, prepares scientific data for presentation, reviews and/or edits manuscripts for publication and assists with the permanent storage of research records.
5. Responsible for knowledge of FDA regulations regarding human experimentation, storage of information, and reporting of side effects.
6. Reviews medical information to be submitted to sponsoring research agencies, and when necessary, arrange for auditing conferences.
7. Assists in the design of protocols for submission to the IRB and expected to be knowledgeable of IRB regulations and guidelines.
8. Provides training and support to Divisional research coordinators.
9. Monitors fiscal responsibility within each clinical trial.
10. With the assistance of the Division Chair, hires research coordinators for the Division Research Group and supervises their day-to-day activity.
11. Meets with the Division Chair to stay abreast of new research considerations and determine priorities of the Division and serves as a liaison for Divisional research activities.
12. Serves as a research coordinator for selected clinical trials.
Communications:
1. Initiates and organizes regular meetings between investigators to discuss various projects, the status of each in relation to others, and participates in problem solving discussions.
2. Coordinates research facility utilization through communications with other research personnel and hospital services.
3. Remains available during regular working hours, and when necessary, on an on-call basis for consultation on nursing and/or protocol related problems or issues related to research projects.
4. Conducts clinical research meetings with Division Chair and research coordinators to discuss project status and proposes methods for problem-solving.
Strategic Planning:
1. Design and execute strategic plans to advance the clinical research program's mission and objectives.
2. Collaborate with project leadership to align initiatives with institutional, divisional and departmental goals.
3. Identify emerging trends, innovations, and opportunities in clinical research to enhance program competitiveness.
4. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress toward strategic objectives.
5. Regularly analyze productivity, funding success rates, and operational efficiencies, providing reports to project leadership.
6. Support the development of long-term funding strategies, identifying high-value opportunities and partnerships.
