The Collegiate Veterans Success Center (CVSC) at the University of Florida (UF) seeks dedicated students to support the veteran and military connected students as they transition to campus life. This is an OPS position of 10 -15 hours weekly. Peer Mentors will connect with new and current UF veteran and military connected students to provide support, increase campus awareness and community engagement. Veteran and Military Peer Mentors will use their leadership skills and experience to encourage mentees towards health, wellbeing, and academic success.
The Peer Mentor will act within an agreed scope of their training to support their mentees. Peer Mentors will also assist with activities and duties within the Collegiate Veterans Success Center (CVSC). Duties and Responsibilities:
• Complete initial training modules to become a peer mentor.
• Coordinate times to engage with student veterans and military-connected students.
• Provide information support to veterans connected students to increase awareness of the resources available
• Shows initiative by getting to know first year veterans through outreach and engagement, check-ins, and contact with mentees both individually and as a group.
• Passes along information about CVSC events and reminders to mentees.
• Maintains a visible and approachable role within the CVSC and is available for mentees.
• Attends monthly Professional Development sessions, team meetings, and CVSC events as needed.
• Go over course schedules with students and assist with course registration as needed.
• Serves as a model student and sets example of social and college life balances
• Facilitates bi-monthly group discussions with mentees.
• Refer students to university and community resources as needed.
• Complete all interaction and outreach logs on a regular basis.
• Increase campus awareness of the peer mentor program and specific needs of veteran and military connected students.
• Assist students in the CVSC, answer calls and return emails, as needed.
