Job Description:
  • Conduct research on insect chemical ecology and integrated pest management using a range of techniques, including:
    Plant volatile collection and analyze through gas-chromatography,
    Behavioral assays on insects with olfactometer, flight-mill, wind tunnel, or Ethovision.
    Development of pheromone disruption strategies.
    Modify and optimize existing sampling methods of insects.
    Conduct experiments investigating attractants and repellents for insects.
    Conduct laboratory experiments investigating insecticide efficiency and modes of action.
    Conduct molecular biological work using techniques such as ELISA, DNA extraction, and PCR.
    Conducting field trials investigating insecticidal efficiency in field conditions.
    Study insect distribution or habitat.
  • Lab Management
    Organize and maintain lab inventory, supplies, and orders, ensuring efficient use of resources and minimizing waste.  
    Oversee maintenance of tools available in the laboratory
    Supervise regular cleaning of the laboratory, ensuring that all material is in good condition, and good quantities.
  • Insect Rearing
    Maintain insect rearing facilities, including watering and fertilizing plants used for insect rearing.
    Control for diseases, weeds, and unwanted insect pests.
    Transfer insects to new plants to develop new insect colonies of specific ages.
  • Supervision
    Supervise and mentor undergraduate students in research projects and provide guidance on scientific techniques and research design.
  • Organize lab inventory, supplies, and orders
    Organize travels for lab employees.
    Order consumable as needed.
    Fill P-card forms in timely manner.
    Ensure that each member of the laboratory has the tools needed to complete their experiments.
  • Revise and edit articles and grants before submission.
    Revise and edit research papers, grants, and extension articles for publication.
    Prepare research grant budgets and manage the submission process.
    Format manuscripts according to publication guidelines.
  • Participate to Outreach and Extension events.
Expected Salary:

$52,000. 

Minimum Requirements:

Doctoral degree in agricultural science, biology, or a closely related field; or a master’s degree in agricultural science, biology, or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in agricultural science, biology, or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education in Entomology, Ecology, or related Fields.  Candidates with higher degrees are encouraged to apply.
Preference will be given to candidates with chemical ecology (olfactometer, volatile collection and analysis through gas chromatography), insect behavioral assays and field experience. A good knowledge of insect collection and identification, and/or in basic molecular biology technics would be a plus.
