Job Description:

Dr. Artem Nemudryi’s lab (nemudryi-lab.com) seeks a motivated Lab Technician to join our growing team in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the UF College of Medicine.

Nemudryi lab uses CRISPR-guided ribonucleases to study how human cells repair RNA and how RNA viruses co-opt these mechanisms for their benefit. We aim to understand the molecular mechanisms that govern RNA repair and translate this understanding into new RNA editing tools for applications in science and medicine.

The position offers valuable research experience in state-of-the-art molecular techniques, including CRISPR technologies, gene editing, molecular cloning, biochemical assays, and working with prokaryotic and eukaryotic viruses. The position also has the potential to be converted into a graduate school opportunity after one year.

The ideal candidates will have a strong biochemistry or molecular biology background and a passion for scientific research.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, molecular cloning, and protein purification.
  • Assist in conducting experiments and analyzing results.
  • Collaborate with other lab members to achieve research goals.
  • Present research results at laboratory meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of laboratory activities and findings.
Expected Salary:

$16 - $18/hour, commensurate with education, skills, and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related areas.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior laboratory experience with any of the following techniques is preferred:

  • DNA/RNA work, PCR, gel electrophoresis, molecular cloning, and other basic molecular biology techniques.
  • Culturing mammalian cells.
  • Protein purification.
  • Culturing bacterial cells and bacteriophages.
