Job Description:

The Organic Geochemistry Laboratory in the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Florida has an opening for a full-time postdoctoral associate. The successful applicant will in part, work on the organic carbon sedimentary dynamics in the coastl systems (e.g., fjords). Highly motivated candidates with strong analytical skills in chemical biomarker and isotopic techniques are encouraged to apply and to incorporate their interests into the project. Experience in GC-MS and HPLC-MS analyses will be emphasized. A demonstrated record in publishing in peer-reviewed journals is required.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Conduct biomarker analyses on global coastal sediment project
  • Help maintain instruments and lab safety protocols
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals
  • Contribute to funding application development
  • Manage lab environment and help Mentor graduate students

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Experience in the use and maintenance of GC-MS and LC-MS instruments
  • Strong analytical skills in chemical biomarker and stable isotopic analyses
  • A Ph.D. from all science majors, especially in biogeochemistry, geochemistry, oceanography, and marine sciences

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. from all science majors, especially in biogeochemistry, geochemistry, oceanography, and marine sciences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Experience in application of isotopic and chemical biomarker techniques with specific emphasis on GC-MS and LC-MS.
  • Ability to take initiatives, set priorities, time-manage, and resolve problem
