The department of Neuroscience at the University of Florida College of Medicine is searching for Research Assistant Scientist to join Dr. Chakrabarty team. The successful candidate will develop and direct research to determine the mechanisms under the pathophysiological development of Alzheimer’s disease-type neuropathology in mouse models of amyloid β and tau. As part of this, the successful candidate will 1) Independently determine and develop appropriate methods to allow for rigorous, controlled, and sensitive data collection using a variety of in vivo and in vitro methods, 2) Train and supervise lab staff in the execution of research methods and the subsequent data analysis, 3) Serve as a liaison between PI, lab staff, and collaborators to coordinate projects in an efficient manner, and 4) Independently synthesize results into peer-reviewed manuscripts and also deliver results at conferences. The successful candidate is expected to aid the PI/supervisor in grant preparation and reporting. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for 1) Complete understanding and compliance with laboratory regulations such as ACS, EH&S, IACUC, UF, State and Federal guidelines, and 2) Maintenance of accurate records and legal documentation required by institutional policies such as biological, chemical, and radiation safety policies. The successful candidate will be expected to accomplish the above duties independently, with regular communication with the PI/supervisor.

Looking for candidates with experience in experimental rodent manipulation, including survival surgeries to join her lab. Candidate will also assist in the management a small-sized rodent colony for the PI. The candidate should possess basic molecular biology skills, such as DNA purification, cloning and familiarity with online tools for DNA analysis. Additional preference will be given to candidates with experience in flow sorting. Knowledge of cell culture techniques is advantageous. Ability to independently evaluate, interpret, and review laboratory results and report findings in laboratory meetings will be required. The candidate will assist other lab members with troubleshooting and will be responsible for general lab maintenance (reagent inventory, lab equipment and supplies).
