[Building Maintenance only: Installs, repairs, and preventatively maintains fume hoods.] The incumbent leads completion of site/slab layout; builds forms for slabs, sidewalks, and curbs; uses dig footers to form foundations; installs reinforcing materials; pours, forms, and finishes concrete; lays block, brick, stucco, ceramic tiles, and marble thresholds; uses a variety of masonry materials; and builds cabinets and counter tops. The Stable Isotope Mass Spectrometry Laboratory in the Department of Geological Sciences is seeking a detail-oriented individual to assist with sample preparation and general lab work.  The technician will be part of a team that measures stable isotopes of nitrogen, carbon, oxygen, hydrogen in a wide range of materials such as lake and marine sediment, plant tissue, animal tissue, water, and rock.  The technician will weigh and transfer small samples prior to analysis.  The technician will also use a wide variety of methods in preparation of samples including drying, grinding, acidifying, and organizing.  Depending on the interest of the technician the job can include learning to use the mass spectrometers and elemental analyzers.  Detailed training in all processes and procedures will be provided.
