Job Description:
 
The University of Florida College of Medicine seeks an Assistant Dean for Student Affairs. This individual provides assistance to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs (ADSA) in administering the duties of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), including oversight and leadership in support of medical students’ educational experience including registration, financial aid, career development, academic counseling and major events (e.g. graduation). This individual is part of the College of Medicine education leadership team and reports to the Associate Dean for Students Affairs.
 
The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) is responsible for administrative oversight of student support services from matriculation to graduation. The OSA ensures that all student non-curricular activities and programs are adequately supported and comport with all institutional and Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation requirements.
 
The OSA works closely with the Offices of Medical Education, Admissions, Student Counseling and Development, and other units within the College of Medicine (e.g. Office of Health Care Excellence, Community, and Belonging, Physicians’ Assistant School and Office of Graduate Medical Education). The Assistant Dean for Student Affairs interfaces with other educational and administrative units and programs within the Health Science Center (HSC) and University.
 
About This Role
 
  • Assist the ADSA in providing leadership and oversight to the academic counseling services, career development programs, student organizations and special interest groups, and other support services for University of Florida medical students in accordance with Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation standards.
  • Support a culture of community, collaboration and respect within the OSA and COM community.
  • Assist the ADSA in operations of the Office of Student Affairs in support of the medical students including COM registrar, academic counselor, and OSA staff. Participate in the hiring and supervision of training for the OSA staff.
  • Work with the ADSA to develop a longitudinal advising program that helps position students properly for a successful match. This may include a focus on coaching and development of professional identity.
  • Work with the ADSA Create a leadership program to cultivate leadership skills in elected student leaders in addition to any students who are interested in advancing their skillset.
  • Strengthen the relationship between the Office of Health Care Excellence, Community, and Belonging and OSA Chair of the Student Advocacy Committee.
  • Co-Chair of the Diversity Liaison Committee.
  • Take an active role in working with and meeting struggling students to identify a plan of action.
  • Collaborate with medical education leadership in establishing policies and procedures for the undergraduate medical education program.
  • Assist with Student Counseling to develop appropriate wellness and student success activities.
  • Participate in the residency application process including preparation of Medical Student Performance Evaluation ensuring alignment with the AAMC recommendations and College of Medicine policies.
  • Participate as an active member of the Match Success Review Committee.
  • Participate in all major events hosted by the Office of Student Affairs.
  • Collect, analyze and report data related to quality review of policies and procedures, results of annual match results, outcomes for student support services, and graduation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
This is a 0.30 FTE administrative appointment.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Candidates must be at Assistant Professor, Associate, or Professor rank appointed in the UF College of Medicine, have a Ph.D., M.D., or relevant terminal degree, and have three years' experience in medical education.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse faculty, student body, and administration.
  • Experience in budget and resource management.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and university laws and policies, including FERPA, HIPAA, Title VI, Title IX, and ADA.
  • High degree of initiative, discretion, and commitment to excellence.
  • Excellent judgment to handle sensitive and confidential matters.
