Job Description: |
Follow ethical codes that protect confidentiality of information while providing interpreting and transliteration services for students who are Deaf/hard of hearing in classroom, lecture, lab, clinical, internships, field experiences, advising meetings, student organization meetings, etc.
Review course materials to prepare for providing accurate interpreting services for students who are Deaf/hard of hearing; which could include reviewing syllabi, specific terminology, course textbooks, legal and medical materials, and other methods of reference.
Engaging with Deaf/hard of hearing students in the accommodation process with their Accessibility Specialist. Establishing working relationships with faculty and staff to ensure the role of the interpreter is understood and clarified. Working directly with DRC staff, classroom faculty, and building administrators to ensure classroom set up is appropriate for them and the student.
Other duties as assigned.

Expected Salary: |
$70,000 annually
|
Minimum Requirements: |
Master’s degree in an appropriate area; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and two to four years of relevant experience.
Must possess a Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID) certification, National Association of the Deaf (NAD) certification, and/or National Interpreter Certification (NIC).

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Knowledge of various manual expressive and respective communication models: American Sign Language, Signed English, and/or tactile interpreting.
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with the Deaf community.
- Masters and/or bachelors in interpretation; The National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI).
Experience providing interpreting services for collegiate students who are Deaf/hard of hearing.
- Experience providing interpreting services in clinical settings, which may or may not include medicine, pharmacy, veterinarian, etc.
- Experience providing interpreting services for graduate level courses, which may or may not include engineering, business, law, etc.
- Proficient in use of a Windows-based computer and Microsoft Office.
- Value diversity and have a multi-cultural perspective of college students who are Deaf/hard of hearing.
- Outstanding time management and organizational skills.
- Strong student support services skills.
- Effective professional written, oral, and signed communication skills.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to punctuality.
- The ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. Constant repetitive motion and mental processing for providing interpreting services.
