The incumbent must possess understanding of principals of conducting applied field and controlled environment research. Under supervision of P.I., the incumbent is responsible for weed management trials which includes but is not limited to: study design, maintenance (pesticide application, fertility, mowing, aerification, verticutting, irrigation, etc.), data collection, data analysis, reporting. These duties require knowledge and application of statistics, field plot and/or greenhouse research preparation and management, plant sampling/processing techniques, and accurate record keeping. In addition, the position requires that the individual have skills related to the proper operation, calibration, and maintenance of agricultural equipment such as pesticide applicators, spreaders, mowers, planters, etc. All field research equipment and supplies must be maintained and inventoried. Field research includes travel to various out of town research sites, as such the incumbent must possess a valid driver license and be willing to travel (including overnight travel) and operate a pick-up truck and/or large SUV to transport research equipment. Research at remote locations requires additional scheduling, thus communication with research cooperators (growers, golf course and athletic fields superintendents, research coordinators, chemical company representatives, etc.). In addition, the incumbent is responsible for the propagation and maintenance of plant material for research and/or demonstration purposes.
Computer and Writing Skills: Analysis of experimental data, preparation of summary reports and preparation of manuscripts with P.I. using statistical methods and appropriate software [e.g. R, Statistica, Statistical Analysis System (SAS)], a spreadsheet and word processing (MS Office), other analytical software (e.g., Field Analzyer, RapidTALK, etc.), communication and collaboration platforms (e.g. MS Teams, Zoom, DropBox).
